The largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands caused a media storm through their naive and worrying approach in gaining their employees measurements for a new staff uniform.
An email was sent to all Employees asking them to take part in a pilot. However, it stated that it was essential and mandatory for them to upload a photograph of themselves in their underwear or tight fitting sportswear.
According to the BBC, it appears the bosses were trying to avoid an influx of 100,000 emails relating to each individual employees measurements. It must have seemed like such a good idea at the time. Thankfully, they cancelled the pilot and apologised to all their employees.
It is unclear when the bosses became aware of the potential issue in what they were requesting from their employees. Whether their apology came after or before it was reported to the media.
With around 100,000 employees, it may have been a good idea to ensure that each department is responsible for collecting such information. Rather than overthinking and causing a potential law suit made against them.
